From Pictureshow magazine, Sept.1940:

“Everything happens to Bette Davis on screen. She dies, goes insane,is tortured, loses her eyesight or faces certain death on plague-ridden islands.

She was murdered in FOG OVER FRISCO, was disappointed in love in DANGEROUS,died slowly and miserably in OF HUMAN BONDAGE, went raving mad in BORDERTOWN,took terrible punishment in MARKED WOMAN, went blind in DARK VICTORY,had to behead her lover in PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX and is the centre of a scandal in ALL THIS AND   HEAVEN TOO.

She is now finishing her new Warners picture, THE LETTER, and commits a murder.”
