A director nobody ever talks about,H.C.Potter,maybe because he only had 23 credits lasting from 1936 to 1957. and yet this is the man who did two films each with Fred Astaire and Cary Grant ,and who directed Loretta Young in her Oscar winning performance in The Farmer’s Daughter.

image  Amongst his films were Mr Lucky,Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House,The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle,Second Chorus, Congo Maisie and Hellzapoppin’.

Quite a range. From what I’ve read, his primary interest was the theatre – he directed the original stage production of Sabrina (with Margaret Sullavan) in 1953 and Henry Fonda in Point of No Return in 1951.

  1. I’ve seen several of these recently – Mr Lucky is pretty good, a great part for Cary Grant. It’s interesting to find out a bit more about the director!
