DIANNE FOSTER was born in 1928 in Edmonton, Alberta. Her birth name was Olga Helen Laruska.
After two years of radio work in Canada, Dianne moved to London and acted with Orson Welles on radio in “The Lives of Harry Lime”.
Subsequently , on the London stage, she was in Welles’ “Othello” and Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow.”
While in the U.K. Dianne made two films, The Quiet Woman (1951) and The Lost Hours (1952 with Mark Stevens ).
Moving to Hollywood, her first role was playing a British character in TV’s “Four Star Playhouse”. Her film debut was in BAD FOR EACH OTHER.
Within a four year period, Dianne had costarred with Charlton Heston,Dana Andrews, Glenn Ford, Alan Ladd and James Stewart.
Not a bad record. I always liked Dianne . She had a rich, warm speaking voice and held her own opposite the big stars.
She did some TV in the 60s, with an appearance in “The Wild Wild West” her last role in 1966. She retired to look after her three children.

She later married dentist Dr. Harold Rowe in 1961 and they were together till his death in 1994.

Never stopped to realize just how many leading men she appeared opposite and not sure I even knew she was Canadian ‘eh! Liked her in The Kentuckian opposite Burt. Good film.
She certainly proved a popular costar. Reminds me of Joanne Dru and Julie Adams.
I like her in The Deep Six.
I’m so embarrassed to say I’ve never seen ANY of her films! I had heard of her, but had no idea she was from Edmonton. Now I’m going to have to track down some of her films.
I liked what you said about her having a rich speaking voice and the ability to hold her own against bigger celebs.

Thank you so much for the education. I had no idea Dianne Foster was a Canadian gal. I’m always pleased to see her on screen, a Perry Mason episode or anything. The Brothers Rico and Night Passage are two of my favourite films.

I didn’t know Dianne Foster was Canadian either! This is special for me as a couple years ago I was reading about her and it started clicking together that the wondeful oral surgeon who took out all 4 of my kids’ wisdom teeth is her son!! My husband talked to him a few months ago and he said she’s doing well and still gets fan mail! (Best-run medical office we’ve ever been to, Dianne raised a terrific, very skilled son.)
