So much has been said in the media about the sad news of Sidney Poitier’s passing, the following photos are my small tribute to this fine actor who blazed a trail for others.
Playing a High School student in BLACKBOARD JUNGLE.
I haven’t seen either “A Raisin In The Sun” or “Lilies of the Field”, but hope to catch up with them soon.
Best Actor Oscar for LILIES OF THE FIELD.
The ending where the class have given their teacher a present.
”They Call Me MR.TIBBS.”
On the set of ”IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT:
The ending of “In The Heat of the Night”.
With his wife, Joanna Shimkus.( Married in 1976).
The last movie I watched with Poitier would have been Band of Angels back in November, and he did a terrific bit of work opposite Gable.
A sad loss. That ending of To Sir, with Love is very touching.
Love that ending. I discovered Sidney made a TV sequel to “To Sir With Love” in 1996.
He shined in every film. Bless him. If there’s a heaven, he’ll be welcomed with open arms.
Lilies of the Field is a beautiful, little film. TCM shows it and I hope they will soon, since Mr. Poitier has recently passed away.
Would love to see it sometime.
I love him in To Sir, with Love. And one can’t forget that he directed the mega-hit Stir Crazy (1980).
Must watch To Sir With Love again.
